Soroptimist International Club of Bangsar is Proud to celebrate 31 years of Advocacy & Service

There are many ways to celebrate an anniversary.  SICB turned 31 on 23rd October.  We had a big dinner celebration on our 30th anniversary and wanted to do something different.  We now have 29 members and we wanted our newer members to know what we have done over the 31 years and our older members to remember why they joined SI.  We felt that the pandemic has caused some disconnect.  Even though we resumed physical meetings, attendance was not as good as it was pre-pandemic.  We wanted to reengage, reconnect and reenergise our members.  So, we decided to go away for a weekend at Janda Baik, a hill resort, one hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur.

Nineteen of us converged on Rimbamama, Janda Baik in the afternoon of 21st Oct, checked in, gathered for tea and mingled.   The venue was wonderful with super tall trees and overlooking a little stream.  The air was fresh and clear – very calming and relaxing.

“Getting to know you” and bonding sessions started the ball rolling. We showed our 30th anniversary video and talked about our current projects. We reflected on why we joined SI and what we need to do for the club to improve and move forward.

Dinner was a good BBQ accompanied by wine and gin donated by some members.  Lucy Wong, our host, who was also our charter president baked us our anniversary cake and she and her husband joined us for the festivities.  Lucy’s husband, Y.K entertained us with songs he recorded.  This was followed by “Charade” which produced a lot of fun and laughter.  We ended the night dancing our hearts away.

On Sunday morning, the early risers went for a walk and watched the sun rise.  Breakfast was yummy Nasi Lemak.  This was followed by further bonding activities and a round up session until lunch time.  After a very tasty laksa lunch, it was time to say goodbye.  We all had a great time and we think we achieved our objectives.  Now to keep the momentum going.
