Virtual Meeting with SI Kisumu

“I was inspired by those amazing stories”, “a perfect sustainable project”. These were some of the comments from the attendees at the zoom meeting SI Bangsar organized with  Friendship Link club SI Kisumu, on 6 November 2021 at 8pm ( Malaysian) 3pm ( East African) time.SI Kisumu through the donations from their Friendship Link clubs, saw 20 vulnerable yet capable  girls ( from the urban slums and rural areas), through secondary, and 7 through tertiary education. A beneficiary of the scholarship, Quinter, now runs her own Cyber café, prepares high school girls for the digital world, helps them with application for jobs, selection of institution of higher learning.

Another recipient, Eunice mentors girls for leadership in a well structured  residential Mentorship programme, where selected speakers on various topics motivate and inspire the girls during the holidays. President Meir Awandu touched on water heating container project for women to have clean drinking water, women in government reforestation programme, female genital mutilation. SI Bangsar President Pheng talked on current projects: Teenage Survival Kit and Food Bank. Whilst Doris from SI Bangsar gave a power point presentation of Malaysia truly Asia, Dorothy took us through the diversity and rich culture of Africa. We learnt of the 45 tribes. “We fight for husbands”, she says as she narrates the drama in a polygamous society, where a man had taken 40 wives. It was indeed a fun-filled, informative session.
