Keeping up with Orang Asli @ Kampung Budaya

On 12th of November 2016, ‘Keeping up with Orang Asli’ event was conducted in Kampung Budaya, Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam. For the past 2 months, the Personal and Cyber Safety Awareness Program team has been working hard to help the children of Temuan indigenous community understand the importance of personal and cyber safety.

The teams executed an exhibition where the drawings and safety kits crafted by the children for the past 2 months were put up for a showcase. At the booth, the children were given goodie bags and balloons. The parents of indigenous community who came to ask about the program were given free sanitizers sponsored by Pharmaniaga.

Prize giving ceremony had taken place. Children received prizes for best drawings and safety kits which includes school bags, color pencils, pencil cases, stationaries, note books, lunch boxes and drinking bottles.

The forum went smoothly and many great stories, experiences and knowledge were shared by the three speakers. The speaker for our team, Mr. Edwan Aidid, the executive of Cyber Security Malaysia talked to the parents about cyber safety and how they can prevent their children from getting harmed by online predators since the children often go out to surf the internet at cyber cafes.

Overall, the event was a success and now it is time for us to take all of our experiences and knowledge gained to the international level. On the 26th of November 2016, we will be flying to Bali, Indonesia to collaborate with London School of PR Jakarta in presenting a conference paper where we can share our experiences and ideas with the students, lecturers and PR practitioners from Indonesia. A very special thanks to Prof Kiranjit, SICB and Taman Botani, Shah Alam.
